Sustainability Issues for Australian Research Data: The report of the Australian e-Research Sustainability Survey Project has been written by Paul McNamara and Dr Markus Buchhorn of the Australian National University who undertook the AERES Project. They were asked to survey the sustainability issues for data-intensive research projects, including the capabilities and demands of research groups and institutions for the storage, access and long-term management of research data. The report is available as a pdf (396kb) document. October 2006.

Sustainable Paths for Data-Intensive Research Communities is the report of the University of Melbourne test-bed project carried out in tandem with the AERES Project by Anna Shadbolt. The project aimed to conduct an audit of ten to twelve data-intensive research communities across a variety of disciplines, documenting the data management issues for each community. The report is available in pdf (599kb) August 2006.

The AONS System Documentation report provides technical information related to the AONS (Automated Obsolescence Notification System) Project. It was prepared by Joseph Curtis of the Australian National University and is available as a pdf (1.2mb) document. For the technically minded, a full description is available from APSR. The PREMIS Requirement Statement Project Report has been prepared by Bronwyn Lee, Gerard Clifton and Somaya Langley of the National Library of Australia. This is the report of the PRESTA Project, the objective of which was to develop a requirements specification for preservation metadata based on the PREMIS (PREservation Metadata: Implementation Strategies) final report, the Data Dictionary for Preservation Metadata.  The report is available in pdf (485kb) and in html. July 2006. 

Preservation of Word-Processing Documents and Preservation of TeX/LaTeX Documents by Ian Barnes both address issues relating to the long-term availability of text documents. Dr Ian Barnes teaches and conducts research in the Department of Computer Science in the College of Engineering and Computer Science at the Australian National University.

Survey of Data Collections: a research project undertaken for the Australian Partnership for Sustainable Repositories by Kevin Bradley of the National Library of Australia and Margaret Henty of the Australian National University. This survey was undertaken in mid-2005 and covers data sets held at the Australian National University, the University of Sydney and the University of Queensland. The survey is available in full as either html or pdf (451KB).

Chris Taylor at the University of Queensland investigated Free Open Source OAI-PMH compliant software, as at 17 November 2004, and prepared this summary of Criteria for choosing repository software. Available in pdf (52mb). 29 June 2005.
